Experimento Blended
Experimento Blended: Ciencias desde Latinoamérica
Collaborative STEM learning across Latin America
Experimento Blended: Ciencias desde Latinoamérica brings together Open Educational Practices (OEP) and inquiry-based STEMplus learning to strengthen not only individual classrooms but entire educational networks while fostering socially relevant science education. Across Latin America, teachers and institutions collaborate to develop and adapt science learning materials that reflect regional contexts and address real-world challenges.
ProgramBlended learning in STEM education
The program builds on the Experimento educational resources developed by Siemens Stiftung and adapts them to a blended learning format. Together with the CIDSTEM research center at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso (Chile) and partners from the Latin America-wide STEM network Red STEM Latinoamérica, the materials were contextualized to reflect Latin American cultures, environments and social realities and follow a holistic STEM+ approach that integrates social, cultural and environmental perspectives.
Why sharing benefits everyone: A network across countries
Experimento Blended connects teachers, universities and education partners across Latin America. Within this collaborative network, educators exchange experiences and adapt materials to different local realities – from rural schools to urban classrooms. The program strengthens the Red STEM Latinoameríca, a network of over 200 institutions across 14 countries, enabling institutions to share knowledge, training approaches and educational resources across countries.

Components Collaborating through Open Educational Practices
Experimento Blended promotes collaboration among educators across Latin America to develop, adapt and share open STEM learning resources.
Developing Open Educational Resources
Within the Experimento program, open educational materials were co-developed with CIDSTEM at PUC Valparaíso. Existing Experimento modules (4+, 8+ and 10+) have been adapted into a blended learning format that can be used both digitally and offline. The materials cover topics such as energy, water, environment, and health and are aligned with science curricula across the region. All resources are available as Open Educational Resources (OER) on the Siemens Stiftung CREA platform, which provides access to more than 2,000 resources. The Experimento Blended materials form part of this collection and are published under a Creative Commons license (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0), allowing teachers to freely access, adapt and share them.
Promoting Open Educational Practices
Experimento Blended focuses not only on learning materials but also on empowering teachers to use and develop them collaboratively. Training programs organized by CIDSTEM and partner organizations support educators in:
- implementing inquiry-based STEM learning
- adapting open educational resources
- integrating socially relevant science topics
- fostering gender-sensitive and inclusive science education
Teachers become multipliers who further develop the materials and integrate regional perspectives and local challenges into the learning process.
Strengthening networks
Conferences and regional exchange formats bring together teachers, researchers and multipliers who work with Experimento Blended. Participants share adaptations of the materials and explore how open educational practices can support collaboration across countries. Platforms such as CREA help make these experiences accessible to a wider educational community and support the continuous co-creation and improvement of the resources.
Between 2024 and 2025, around 3,000 teachers in Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, Peru and Mexico have already been trained, with further expansion planned across the region.
Join the Experimento Blended Conference
Teachers, education experts and partner institutions are invited to participate in the regional conference and exchange experiences on open STEM education.
Partners Strong Latin America-wide partner network
The project is being implemented across different countries in the region in close collaboration with local partner institutions from the Red STEM Latinoamérica, which contribute their expertise in teacher training and strong on-the-ground capacities.
To date, 15 partners from the Red STEM Latinoamérica have been actively contributing to the implementation of the project: PUCV-CIDSTEM, UNIMINUTO, UNICEF Mexico, Gobernación de Magdalena, Gobernación de Antioquia, UNIFRANZ, Universidad Peruana Cayetana Heredia, Siemens Fundación Argentina, INNOVEC, Fundación Robotix, Pauta, Municipalidad de Vicente López, Ministerio de educación de Buenos Aires, Fundación Patiño, Fundación Educacional San Agustín.
