Thematic partnerships

In addition, we cooperate with partners from various areas of society in specific fields. The impact of the initiatives is strengthened through networking and cooperation, enabling synergies for sustainable, positive social change.

Forum Education and Digitalization: Learning in a digitalized world

The Forum Digitalization and Education is a collaborative initiative by Deutsche Telekom Stiftung, Bertelsmann Stiftung, Robert Bosch Stiftung, and Siemens Stiftung, with funding from Stiftung Mercator. These foundations believe that digital media can help tackle pedagogical challenges, such as how to engage with diverse learning groups. In pursuing this initiative, the partnering organizations can improve our education system and push for more educational participation and equal opportunity.

The foundations invite anyone who shares these beliefs to take part in a systematic exchange for the purpose of learning from and with each other. To this end, the initiative has established a platform connecting government, science, economics, and society to start an open discussion about the digitalization of education and to work collaboratively on a practical strategy for the German education system.

Initially, the initiative’s work will focus on school education, but other educational areas will be added later. Three urgent focal points have been defined for the initial phase:

-    Personalized learning with digital media
-    Skills for the digitalized world
-    Change management and organizational development

The first phase up to 2017 will see the organization of dialogue forums, conferences, and workshops with various stakeholders from the education branch, including decision-makers from government, administration, and those working directly in the field. In addition, the initiative will identify school concepts in Germany that successfully implement personalized learning with digital media. The initiative will strive to highlight these success stories and find out how school development toward digital education can be achieved. This includes what conditions and transfer structures are needed to spread best practices more widely.

An Internet-based platform will bundle all activities, current information, and basic knowledge on the subject and make them publicly available.

Bavarian Education Pact

The major challenges in education cannot be overcome in the future by governments alone. That is why the State of Bavaria cooperates with enterprises and associations and shares responsibility in the Foundation “Bildungspakt Bayern” (Bavarian Education Pact).

Siemens Stiftung has a seat on the board of Trustees and supports individual projects. One of them is the current three-year Horizontec project, which develops teaching modules for higher secondary schools based on real-life issues of future relevance largely in the science and technology area.

Council for Cultural Education

Cultural education is the basis for learning, personal development, creativity and sustainability. It is an essential element of general education. Siemens Stiftung is therefore concerned with increasing the value and quality of cultural education and anchoring it in the education system. In 2012, the foundation established the “Rat für Kulturelle Bildung” (Council for Cultural Education) together with the ALTANA Kulturstiftung , Bertelsmann Foundation, Deutsche Bank Foundation, PwC- Foundation and Stiftung Mercator.

Under the title “Always good: Myths about cultural education,” the Council for Cultural Education presented its first analysis in November 2013. The analysis examines prevailing basic assumptions about cultural education, which are often viewed as valid but rarely questioned. Thirteen experts are exploring the “myths” with an eye to the real world and hope to encourage constructive debate on the issue of cultural education.
