The Siemens Stiftung student competition goes international – 116 research studies have been submitted

How can we use the Earth’s resources more intelligently? Students are thinking hard about this topic, and 116 research studies have been submitted. And for the first time, the entries not only come from Germany, but from Austria, Switzerland, Spain, and Turkey.

The ideas span a broad range, and include using noise as an energy source, research on the most efficient use of even very small amounts of water, and the development of new industrial materials from polylactic acid and stinging nettles. The papers will now be evaluated by jurors at the partner universities RWTH Aachen, TU Berlin and TU Munich. The best fifteen student teams will get to present their work in a preliminary round at one of the three universities. The nine winners of these preliminary rounds will then go to the finale, which will take place April 2-4, 2011, in Munich. It will be an exciting next few months for students, teachers, and jurors alike.
