MEDEA Awards 2011: Media portal nhonored as an outstandig education medium

The Siemens Stiftung's media portal has achieved a notable success in the international competition for the 2011 MEDEA Awards. The jury recognized the online portal, which offers approximately 3,000 digital teaching materials, as especially recommended for use in the field of education. The Siemens Stiftung's project joined a group of 13 entries which, in addition to the nine finalists, were cited as outstanding by the organizing committee.

The media portal impressed the jury amid very strong competition: A total of 115 projects from 28 countries were entered this year. The MEDEA Awards, which are supported by the European Commission's Lifelong Learning Program, aim to foster innovation and good practice, both in the production and pedagogical design of media-supported learning resources and in their use in education. This is intended to create an education environment that reflects the diverse media world in which students now live.

"We are very pleased to have received this honor from the MEDEA Awards, and it reinforces our resolve to continuously expand the range of languages and topics that our media portal offers," said Maria Schumm-Tschauder, project manager of the Siemens Stiftung media portal. "Our up-to-date, expertly prepared teaching materials support educators around the world in their pedagogic mission of preparing children and young people throughout the education chain for the challenges of the global world."

The prize will be awarded on November 24 as part of the Media & Learning Conference in Brussels.
