Cooperation with Instituto Apoyo: Experimento now also in Peru
Discover, explore, explain – Experimento, the international education program from Siemens Stiftung, is now being used in Peru following Chile, Argentina and Colombia. Experimento is a practical teaching concept that aims to arouse enthusiasm for natural sciences and maintain it from preschool to graduation. It is already being used in the first regions of Peru in cooperation with the Instituto Apoyo, which specializes in innovative approaches in the field of education. With further training seminars, materials and experiment kits, it expands the range of training and continuing education opportunities for education experts in the field of science and technology and strengthens learning through experiments in the classroom.
The materials and further training seminars were adapted to the national curricula and requirements in 2012. Since the 2013 school year, initial pilot programs in the Piura and Gran Lima regions have been held together with local education authorities and with the growing support of the private sector. More than 40 third- and fourth-grade teachers have already taken part in the further training seminars on Experimento. As a result, some 1,250 pupils will benefit from the idea of research-based learning: The experiments teach them to explore natural phenomena on their own in the classroom and understand the relationship between science and technology. The program will be presented to the general public at the PERUMIN 31 Convencíon Minera in Arequipa on Monday, September 16.
The use of Experimento 4+ and gradually 8+ and 10+ is also planned in other parts of the country in 2014. The program will be integrated lastingly at state schools by means of further training for teachers and further expansion of public-private alliances aimed at promoting STEM subjects. Further cooperation projects will soon be launched in Brazil and Uruguay.
