Siemens Stiftung is supporting this year’s “Little Scientists’ Day” by the Stiftung Kinder forschen (Little Scientists Foundation) on June 13. The annual day of action focuses on a different exciting topic related to STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) subjects to encourage children’s interest in science.

Under this year’s motto “Adventure in space – come along!”, Stiftung Kinder forschen is inviting children and teachers from daycare centers, nursery, and elementary schools from across Germany to organize a scientific event at their institution, a project week, or any other special activity on space travel. Aligned with the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research theme: “Science Year 2023 – Our Universe”, the idea is to give children the opportunity to explore the universe, the solar system, and their home planet.

Siemens Stiftung is supporting this initiative in Germany through the financial support from the Cents4Sense program by Siemens AG. Additionally, the internationally operative foundation is collaborating with its Red STEM Latin America network to spread the joy of discovering the mysterious world of the universe by replicating the campaign in the region. Like the call in Germany, the foundation’s partners across Latin America are inviting young children to join the initiative to spark their interest in the knowledge and achievements of space travel. This will inculcate the importance of preserving the planet among children at their most impressionable age.

During the hands-on research and experiments, the children acquire many STEM related skills. Over the years this initiative has ignited children’s curiosity in science subjects and demonstrated the relevance of good early STEM education. It has opened children’s avenues to inquiry-based and problem-solving learning and enabled them to act in a self-determined manner.

ogether with Stiftung Kinder forschen, Siemens Stiftung wants to give children access to experiences and connections from natural sciences and technology as early as possible to master the challenges of the present and the future. To make the participation interactive, Stiftung Kinder forschen is providing free material.

Suggestions for research, background information and tips for researcher parties for the day of action are available for free:

On June 13, Stiftung Kinder forschen will mark the day of action with a ceremony in Berlin at the Archenhold Observatory – together with daycare and elementary school children exploring the life of an astronaut. The Federal Association of the German Aerospace Industry e.V., German Aerospace Center e.V., Carl-Zeiss-Stiftung, Wilhelm und Else Heraeus Stiftung and Science Year 2023 – Our Universe, along with Siemens Stiftung are supporting the nationwide “Little Scientists’ Day”.

“By introducing STEM education at an early age, children can develop the skills to shape the future and forge new paths of innovation. The Little Scientists’ Day encourages children’s spirit of research in a playful and interactive way, empowering the next generation to explore opportunities and tackle challenges,” explains Dr. Nina Smidt, Managing Director, and Spokesperson at Siemens Stiftung.
