STEMplus at the center of the 6th International Forum on Educational Innovation in Bolivia

This year’s event focuses on the STEMplus concept, which combines STEM subjects with social and creative dimensions.

On July 3 and 4, 2025, the sixth International Forum on Educational Innovation (Foro Internacional de Innovación Educativa – FIIE) will take place in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia, under the theme “Education for Sustainability.” This year’s event will focus on the STEMplus concept, which expands the STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) to include social, creative, and sustainability-oriented dimensions. 

Dr. Nina Smidt, CEO of Siemens Stiftung, as keynote speaker 

Dr. Nina Smidt, Managing Director and CEO of Siemens Stiftung, will deliver a keynote address. In her presentation, “STEM+ Education and its Role in Boosting Educational Innovation Ecosystems with Social Impact,” she will highlight the significance of innovative educational approaches that promote social participation, creativity, and sustainable development.    

International participation and high-level guests 

The forum expects around 600 participants, including numerous key stakeholders from the Latin American education sector. Education ministers and authorities from Bolivia and other countries, as well as senior representatives of international organizations such as UNESCO, UNICEF, GIZ, and the United Nations Development Program, will attend. The event aims to foster the exchange of forward-thinking educational strategies and to strengthen international cooperation. 

Santa Cruz de la Sierra officially declared a STEAM Territory 

Another highlight of the program will be the official declaration of Santa Cruz de la Sierra as a STEAM Territory (Territorio STEAM), joining a network of over 50 similar initiatives across the continent. Local coordination will be managed by Franz Tamayo University (UNIFRANZ), which will also lead the implementation of the Experimento Blended program in Bolivia. The goal is to establish innovative teaching and learning formats that combine digital and traditional educational environments.
