The empowering people. Award recognizes innovative technologies that cover important aspects of basic services in one of the following categories:

  • Waste management
  • Education & training
  • Energy
  • Food & agriculture
  • Financial technology
  • Healthcare
  • Mobility & infrastructure
  • Water & waste water

The epAward 2019, the third edition of the Award Ceremony, saw a record number of entries with about 800 award submissions from 86 countries. The majority of entries came from Africa and Asia, with a strong showing from the Americas. A team of experts from AT Verband evaluated the technical quality of the submitted projects, while another team from Intellecap assessed the business models.

For the first time, all 11 finalists pitched their innovative, sustainable business and its social impact to the multi-disciplinary, international jury panel and relevant audience from international thoughtleaders.

Since 11 July 2019, the winners of empowering people. Award 2019 have been announced. At the awards ceremony in Cairo, Nathalie von Siemens and Rolf Huber presented the three successful social enterprises:

Also, the 8 runners-up will not go home empty-handed – each enterprise will receive €10,000 to help them continue their crucial work locally and globally. In addition, SuMeWa | System (AUTARCON) has received the Special WASH Award of €20,000, supported by Siemens Stiftung’s collaborator, Knorr-Bremse Global Care. Also, GrainMate – Grain Moisture Meter (Sesi Technologies Ltd.) received the most votes in the online community voting and has won the Community Prize of €10,000.

The winners also gain the long-term benefit of support from the empowering people. Network, a dynamic ecosystem of inventors, development professionals, and experts that provide mentoring, training, and specialized knowledge while supporting targeted collaboration. The winning technologies will also be added to the Network’s Solutions Database, making them globally accessible.
