TempWatch is a temperature monitoring bracelet developed by BEMPU Health that continuously monitors a newborn’s temperature for a month, both in the hospital and at home. It’s designed to address hypothermia, a major cause of death and illness in newborns, particularly those with low birth weight in resource-poor areas. If the baby’s temperature drops below 36.5°C, the bracelet alerts the caregiver with an audio-visual alarm, prompting them to provide kangaroo mother care (KMC) to warm the baby. The alarm also signals if the infant is unable to maintain temperature, implying a possible infection. The device is simple to use, comfortable for the baby, and doesn’t require a smartphone, internet, or electricity, making it suitable for low-resource settings.
