The sixth National STEM Summit will be held on June 7, 2018, in Berlin: The focal points of the conference will be the quality and impact of non-school STEM initiatives as well as the structure of future-proof STEM education within the school ecosystem. Members of the Nationales MINT Forum will join decision makers on a number of different political levels in discussions about requirements and specific recommended solutions. Afterward, they will issue a joint set of recommendations. The participants will include Helmut Holter, the President of the German Standing Conference of Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs.

“Everybody is talking about the challenges of digitalization and are forgetting in the process that these challenges can be met only with a solid and viable STEM education,” said Nathalie von Siemens, the co-spokeswoman for the Nationales MINT Forum (National STEM Forum Germany). The forum’s other spokesman, Ekkehard Winter, added: “We cannot neglect the issue of STEM education right now. It remains a core responsibility. It is something that we do not just simply support. It is actually something that we must devote our full energy to and foster by conducting targeted campaigns.”

For this reason, the 2018 summit is explicitly designed to be a working conference that will be attended by illustrious speakers and about 100 high-ranking political guests from the national, state and municipal level as well as the Nationales MINT Forum. The discussions will focus on the impact orientation of non-school learning sites and partnerships between schools and regional STEM education networks.

About Nationales MINT Forum
In the Nationales MINT Forum, more than 30 large, nationally-active academic institutions, foundations and associations work to improve education in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) along the entire educational chain: from education in early childhood and at school, vocational training and academic education, to continuing education and life-long learning. The mission of the Nationales MINT Forum is to formulate joint convictions and recommendations for educational policy between the poles of perspectives, interests and issues. As the national voice of STEM players in Germany, the forum concentrates the experiences and expertise of the STEM civil society, thus forming the largest common denominator. With its voice, the forum sparks public debates and creates a constructive dialog with other stakeholders, particularly those in politics.
