The media portal of the Siemens Stiftung now also available in English
Around 480 English media files on the topics of energy, water and hearing – English user interface – Easy-to-use search functions and free downloads
The media portal of the Siemens Stiftung now also offers teaching materialson scientific topics in English. About 480 media files are currently availablefor free downloading. In addition, the English user interface also enablesteachers who do not speak German to easily find these media files. Thus,the Siemens Stiftung has expanded its media portal, which has alreadygained a solid reputation among German-speaking teachers, by addingmaterials for bilingual and non-German teaching.
The media portal of the Siemens Stiftung now also offers an English user interfaceand contents in English. In addition to more than 1,000 German media files,teachers can now also access around 480 media files in English on the topics ofenergy, water and hearing. The current materials for lesson preparation andlesson structure cover useful and valuable information on the latest technologiesas well as recent developments and trends, and convey basic fundamentals ofscience. The portal includes both single media such as interactive graphics,animations, videos, audio files, and information sheets, as well as thematicallygrouped media packages.
Just a few clicks away
Both the English and German user interface offer the same convenient features: After completing a simple registration process, teachers can carry out highlytargeted searches for appropriate material and download it with just a few clicks.Searches are possible by keyword or using pedagogical-didactical criteriaincluding subjects, learning resource types and grade levels.In this way, teachers receive precisely the media they desire, tailored to theirrequirements. The rights to the materials are licensed for free use in lessons.
Future outlookSince its launch in May 2009, the German version of the media portal of theSiemens Stiftung has recorded more than 2,600 registrations and over 170,000downloads. Many teachers are already using the materials on topics as Einstein,energy, hearing, light and water in preparing and teaching their lessons. With theEnglish material, the Siemens Stiftung not only supports teachers abroad in theirwork, but also supplements bilingual lessons at German schools.
The media portal is updated and expanded on a regular basis. Current planningincludes the addition of further English media files as well as materials in Spanish.
