IRENE I SEE research network
Events for strengthening the network
Conferences, seminars, and mutual visits to partner universities served to strengthen and expand the IRENE I SEE research network. "South-South Exchanges" extended the network beyond a region's own university, organizations and companies.
Social enterprises under the microscope
“Social Entrepreneurship” seminar in spring 2012 und 2013
In spring, a ring seminar on the topic of “Social Entrepreneurship” was held at the Institute of Corporate Management & Economics at Zeppelin University for master’s students. The seminar was led by Prof. Stephan A. Jansen, Dr. Lisa Hanley, Aline Wachner, and Rieke Schües. After the students had produced an overview of social business activities in Germany and the development of social entrepreneurship in an international context, they extended these social business concepts to the two research programs currently running at Zeppelin University: Mercator German Research Network on Social Entrepreneurship and IRENE I SEE.
“Political Economy of Development Administration" seminar in spring 2013
The seminar dealt with the political economy of developing countries and examined the political, economic, and social challenges in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Various Least Developed Countries (LDC)-relevant historical and contemporary issues were taken into consideration as well as theoretical approaches that underlie the development research. The course combined theory and case studies by examination of the countries and regions in the Global South. The aim of the seminar was to familiarize students with the peculiarities of politics and economics in the developing world, evaluate development problems in various regions of the world in a comparative way and critically examine the term “development” The seminar will be offered again in the fall of 2014.
