After PANORAMA SUR in Argentina and MOVIMIENTO SUR in Chile, a third academy for the performing arts is now being established in South America with EXPERIMENTA SUR in Colombia. These academies are contributing to the growth of a sustainable structure for collaboration and exchange in Latin America that raises awareness of the potential impact of culture in society.
The focal points of the annual working platforms differ from country to country. PANORAMA SUR in Buenos Aires focuses on young authors and on the development of new theater plays with societal relevance. MOVIMIENTO SUR in Valparaíso responds to the need for innovation in contemporary dance in Chile and supports interdisciplinary collaboration on themes related to mobility. The newly established temporary EXPERIMENTA SUR academy in Colombia focuses on the development of new interdisciplinary formats of cultural work.
Under the motto of “Expanded Dramaturgies” (Peter Eckersall), it brings together (young) artists, curators, dramaturges and mediators of culture from Latin America to try out new models for artistic work in society. The first part of the project aims at knowledge transfer and capacity building, particularly in areas on the interface of artistic work and the public (curator, dramaturge, cultural communicators). The second part gives space to collaboration and exchange for the development of model projects.
Since 2012, the Goethe-Institut has cooperated on the expansion of the projects with an extensive stipend program to foster Latin American dialogue.
