First International Academy for the Performing Arts from October 22 to 26, 2013 in Bogotá
Emerging curators, artists and cultural mediators met at the kick-off event held in October 2013 at Mapa Teatro in Bogotá for a two-week lab where they focused on experimentation as a method of artistic research and training. The role and impact of culture on society as well as the search for adequate forms of production and mediation were addressed in the discussion. The renowned Brazilian culture critic and psychoanalyst Suely Rolnik led the lab. A Professor at the Catholic University of São Paulo, she held an accompanying public lecture entitled “Why Think?”
The five-day academy raised fundamental questions: How can an independent stance in cultural work be formulated in Latin American countries? Or: How is it even possible to make art in a society so marked by violence? In curated evening programs with music, discussions, film and shared meals the discussions were continued making it possible to gain insights into the academy’s interdisciplinary approaches.
