German premiere for the international NMC Horizon Report: OER confirmed as a key trend

A great undertaking: Every year the international NMC Horizon Report: 2014 K-12 looks at the latest technologies that will have a profound global impact throughout education in the next five years. The study is initiated by the New Media Consortium (NMC), which has grappled with this important question since 2002. The new edition names open educational resources (OER) as one of six key trends that will accelerate the use of classroom learning and teaching technologies. It is only logical that the study itself is available under open license, enabling it to be disseminated in other languages. Siemens Stiftung has had the report translated into German. The report is now available for downloading, likewise under open license, on the Media Portal and the Siemens Stiftung website.

In creating the report, an international council of experts identified 18 subjects, breaking them down into six key trends, six significant challenges, and six emerging technologies for teaching and learning. In addition to the increasing focus on OER, the experts pointed toward the rethinking of teacher roles, the shift to deeper learning approaches, the use of hybrid learning models, intuitive technology, and the rethinking of how schools work.
