Digital teaching material honored again

This time, the interactive whiteboard files in the media portal have been honored with the prestigious multimedia prize by the “Gesellschaft für Pädagogik und Information e.V. – GPI” (Society for Pedagogy and Information).

For the third year in a row, the Siemens Stiftung is being presented with the Comenius EduMedia Seal for digital teaching material. This time, the interactive whiteboard files in the media portal have been honored with the prestigious multimedia prize by the “Gesellschaft für Pädagogik und Information e.V. – GPI” (Society for Pedagogy and Information). The GPI uses this prize to encourage outstanding ICT-based educational media, which is judged on the basis of educational technique, content, and design (ICT = information and communication technology). It is one of the most important multimedia awards in Europe.

The interactive whiteboard files are specifically designed for teaching on the whiteboard or with other pen-based technologies. They combine the pedagogical methods of conventional board work with the advantages of media-supported instruction. “We see this award for the interactive whiteboard files as a confirmation of our ongoing development of the media portal,” explains Maria Schumm-Tschauder, Siemens Stiftung Project Director for the media portal. “New, innovative teaching methods are necessary to stimulate students’ interest, especially in science and technology topics, and to promote these topics over the long term. This is exactly what we are trying to support with the whiteboard file format.”

The interactive whiteboard files on the subjects of energy conversion, the battery, photosynthesis, the ear, the eye, sound, water treatment, and encoding will soon be available in English and Spanish, making them suitable for use in bilingual education.
