Why won’t the Eiffel tower fall over even in a storm? What makes a bridge so strong that even heavy trucks can drive across? How does the steering in a car work? ”KiTec – Kinder entdecken Technik” (KiTec - Children Discover Technology) wants to encourage children’s inquisitiveness and scientific curiosity. For that purpose, KiTec boxes for the classroom were developed by the Ulm Transfer Center for Neuroscience and Learning (Transferzentrum für Neurowissenschaften und Lernen - ZNL) in collaboration with a chair for technology and didactics. KiTec contains three comprehensive sets of tools and materials. With these sets, elementary school children get to work in teams on a number of different civil, automotive and electrical engineering tasks. Before starting on their projects, the children get to familiarize themselves with the contents of the boxes and obtain their ”tools license“.
