Barbara Filtzinger was born in Bonn, grew up in Stuttgart and studied history and education at Ludwig-Maximilian University in Munich. She earned her master’s degree in 1989 and her doctorate in 1993. She has worked at several state museums in Germany.

From 1990 to 2009, Dr. Filtzinger held various Corporate Communications responsibilities at Siemens AG, managing international project teams and heading educational projects at schools in Germany, Russia, the Czech Republic and Poland; from 2002 to 2005 she was Director of Public Relations, and from 2005 to 2009 Director of Corporate Citizenship. In this capacity she developed and implemented international citizenship strategies.

From 2008, Dr. Filtzinger was instrumental in planning and establishing the Siemens Stiftung.
