Carola Schwank studied German, history, political science and sociology at Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. Since 1987 she has worked in the Education, Information and Press department of Siemens AG in Erlangen, where her assignments have included heading the in-house media library. From 2000 to 2009, she was responsible for all internal and external communication in Erlangen-Nuremberg, the largest Siemens facility in the world. Her work focused on social and economic issues, new technologies, student projects and corporate responsibility. She also advised the management of Siemens in Erlangen-Nuremberg on sponsoring, cultural involvement and measures to achieve a work-life balance.

Since October 2009, she has headed the team in the Erlangen office that is responsible for the Urban Perspectives and Youth Changemaker City projects.
