Start of didacta 2010: Siemens Stiftung presents its educational projects from March 16 to 20 in Cologne

Today, March 16 at 10 o’clock, Annette Schavan, Federal Minister of Education and Research, opened the didacta and started Europe’s largest education trade fair. Until March 20, some 800 exhibitors from 15 countries are presenting their product lines for the field of education in Cologne. Siemens Stiftung, represented in Hall 6.1 for the first time with its own booth, is highlighting its extensive commitment to education in the MINT fields (mathematics, informatics, natural sciences, technology) and to the promotion of language and cultural communication along the entire education chain – from pre-school through secondary school. Teachers, educators at all levels and those who simply want to learn more are welcome to visit the booth and learn more about the various projects.

Visitors to the Stiftung’s booth will find much to discover: The Forscherkiste,
Discovery Box and Tiny Tots Science Corner projects make natural phenomena approachable to even the youngest minds. The language support program KIKUS (Children in Cultures and Languages), which Siemens Stiftung supports, focuses on helping immigrant children discover the joy of learning.

A special highlight are the daily live experiments with the NaWi kit by project partner Wissensfabrik e.V. Primary school students, guided by an instructor, are demonstrating how to unlock the secrets of science with exciting experiments: what happens if you heat up sugar, why does a candle need air and how can you dissolve common salt and then regain it? Every morning at 11 o’clock, there is an opportunity to look over the young scientists’ shoulders as they experiment with the NaWi kit.

For secondary school students, Siemens Stiftung presents the Electro-Lab Kit with its sophisticated electronic experiments. And as the annual school competition nears its grand finale in late March, anticipation surrounding the next contest is already great. Teachers can experience for themselves the diversity and user-friendliness of the media portal and try out its comprehensive features. The portal currently encompasses over 1,900 instructional materials for different school types, grade levels and subjects.
Since 2004, the project grant series “kiss – Culture in Schools and Universities” has supported teachers and aspiring teachers by awarding grants to those training for teaching careers in music and the arts and by providing instructional materials for contemporary art and culture.

The Siemens Stiftung looks forward to your visit in Hall 6.1, Aisle B, Booth 068.
