The staff fund-raising campaign at the Siemens Stiftung and Siemens AG ended on January 29. Worldwide over Euro 2 million were raised. The donations in Germany will go to the German Red Cross (Deutsches Rotes Kreuz – DRK). In addition to containers of water, blankets and emergency shelter the DRK has also sent a mobile clinic to Haiti. This mobile DRK Hospital can treat up to 700 people daily. Severe fractures and injuries can also be operated on here as capacities dealt with by the clinic correspond to those of a German regional hospital. Four operating teams can work at a time at the hospital. As structures on the ground in Haiti have been destroyed the hospital will remain in operation for many months to come.
The Siemens Stiftung has also donated ten SkyHydrant water filters to supply people with clean drinking water.
