Student competition 2011

Winners of the Siemens Stiftung student competition 2011 with the theme “Using resources intelligently – working today to conserve for tomorrow.”

Carina Tetzlaff and Katharina Vollheyde from Christian-von-Dohm-Gymnasium in Goslar took top honors in the student competition 2011 and secured prize money of €20,000 for their project entitled “Study of a fiber-reinforced material made from polylactic acid and nettles”. The jurors awarded second prize and €15,000 to Claudia Fischer, Victor Brosius and Nina Neser from Theodor-Heuss-Gymnasium in Ludwigshafen for their project entitled “Running on false flax in the tank?” Third-place honors and prize money of €10,000 went to Andreas Bartl, Sabrina Schönberger and Michael Schobesberger from HTL für Lebensmitteltechnologie in Wels (Austria) for their project “Production of bioethanol using immobilized yeast cells and immobilized yeast enzymes”.

Simon Kollross from Bad Kötzting in Bavaria received a special prize and a €10,000 check for his project “Changes in the forests of Upper Bavaria through the use of wood as a source of energy.”

The supporting teachers were also acknowledged. Ute Eckhof and Bettina Fischer received €2,000 and €1,500, respectively, while Johann Kapplmüller and Klaus Baumgartner each received €1,000 for their hard work with the students. The prize money benefits the teachers’ departments.
