The Siemens Foundation Will Donate 20,000 Euros for a Field Hospital from the German Red Cross - the Siemens Foundation and the Siemens AG Will Double all Donations received from now until January 29,2010
A powerful earthquake struck Haiti on January 12, 2010, devastating the capital city of Port-au-Prince and other nearby towns. This island nation numbers among the world’s poorest countries and has a very weak infrastructure. After this catastrophic earthquake, Haiti now desperately needs international assistance.
The earthquake destroyed one of the country’s few hospitals. The people of Haiti are now all the more urgently in need of medical care. The German Red Cross (DRK) has dispatched a field hospital to Haiti. This mobile clinic will offer medical care for 30,000 people. The clinic will be staffed by an eight-person team consisting of physicians and nurses, a midwife and technicians. The team will work together with local Haitian assistants.
The Siemens Foundation supports the DRK and is donating 20,000 euros to help finance the field hospital.
Never before has global water consumption been as high as it is today, and as the world’s population grows it too will continue to rise. But there is a limit to the earth's water resources. While those of us in industrialized nations might take this valuable resource for granted, it dominates the everyday lives of people in most developing countries.
To improve the drinking water situation in the world’s poorest countries, the Siemens Stiftung is engaged in water projects, for example in Ethiopia, Burkino Faso and Angola.
