The student competition in math, natural sciences and technology initiated by the Siemens Stiftung is aimed at students attending a school in Germany who will take their Abitur exams in two to three years’ time (e.g. approximately high-school graduation level). This competition can be joined by young scientists, either alone or in teams of up to three, who are developing creative research projects and dealing with them in a scientific work. Three renowned German universities, Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule (RWTH) Aachen, Technische Universität (TU) Berlin und Technische Universität München (TUM) will scientifically appraise and evaluate the research projects submitted.
This year’s competition is entitled ”Energy Geniuses of the Future – Ideas for Improved Efficiency.“ It addresses students interested in developing a project all about energy and finding ideas and solutions for improving energy efficiency.
With the student competition in math, natural sciences and technology, the Siemens Stiftung, which has taken over the competition from Siemens AG, wants to encourage and promote talented junior scientists in Germany. One of the chief goals of this student competition is to encourage and motivate young people to scientifically deal with a topic relevant to society from a mathematical, scientific and technological perspective.
Finished work can be submitted online by January 15, 2010. After that date, everything is in the hands of the jurors. They will judge the projects and determine which teams will be allowed to present their ideas in the three regional contests at the beginning of March. For the winners, the national finals in Munich await. The final winners will be named at the conclusion of that event on March 22, 2010.
