The media portal of the Siemens Stiftung offers a wide range of diverse teaching materials, and is now available in English in addition to the German version. Of the more than 1,800 items about natural scientific topics like hearing, energy, water or light as well as social aspects, more than 840 English-language media files are available for free downloading. The portal is regularly updated and expanded to include new media files.
The materials for lesson preparation and lesson structure cover useful and valuable information on the latest technologies as well as current developments and trends, and convey basic fundamentals of science. The media, created in cooperation with pedagogical educational partner Lokando, follow curriculum guidelines and can be used directly in lessons. The target group is primary elementary, and secondarymiddle and high school teachers. However, lecturers and instructors may also register at the media portal and download media files.
With its media portal, the Siemens Stiftung is using modern web technologies for sophisticated search functions and distribution of teaching materials. The portal includes both single media such as interactive graphics, animations, videos, audio files, and information sheets, as well as thematically grouped media packages. After completing a simple registration process, teachers can carry out highly targeted searches for appropriate material and download it with just a few clicks. Searches are possible by keyword or using pedagogical-didactical criteria including subjects, learning resource types and grade levels. In this way, teachers receive precisely the media they desire, tailored to their requirements. The rights to the media are licensed for free use in lessons. As an additional service, the portal also allows free downloading of the MediaManager. Using this educational educational software tool, media files can be downloaded together with the corresponding additional information, combined with the teacher’s own materials or third-party materials, or combined into customized media collections.
Note: Commercial use of the teaching materials is strictly prohibited.
