Origins of Siemens Stiftung

Our founder, Siemens AG, can look back on a 160-year tradition of corporate citizenship. The establishment in 2008 of the Siemens Stiftung, which is internationally active in the current focus regions of Africa, Latin America and Germany/Europe, represented a logical intensification of these efforts. With the establishment of this foundation, Siemens AG contributes in particular to meaningful, efficient development cooperation, with well-known local and international key players as its partners. An important part of the current Stiftung program builds on the expertise of former Siemens employees in the areas of corporate citizenship, the arts, and the SiemensForums in Erlangen and Munich.

After further developing its strategic focus in fiscal 2010, the Siemens Stiftung foundation today concentrates primarily on comprehensive projects and models. The central activities in the area of education were already transferred to the Siemens Stiftung as of January 1, 2009, as were the social activities of the Erlangen and Munich SiemensForums and the Siemens Arts Program as of October 1, 2009 – and these fields have now been incorporated as part of the Stiftung’s focus on its three new working areas.
