The theme of the 2014 student competition is “Rethinking energy – start shaping the future.” Participants are asked to formulate a specific research question relating to the larger challenges and perspectives of the new energy era, develop an answer, and summarize the project in a written paper. Submissions will be thoroughly evaluated by prominent scientists at RWTH Aachen University, the Technical University of Berlin, and the Technical University of Munich.
Deadline for registration: November 15, 2013
Deadline for submissions: January 15, 2014
When all the pieces fit together, the student competition runs smoothly.
The competition is open to secondary school students in Germany (grades 10 and up), Austria (upper-level grades 6 and up), Switzerland (German-speaking schools, secondary level II), and at German schools elsewhere in Europe (grades 10 and up). The winning students or teams of students will advance to the semi-final rounds in Aachen, Berlin, and Munich. The top nine will then travel to the grand finale in Berlin in the spring of 2014.
Monetary prizes totaling approximately €100,000 are available. A core objective of the Siemens Stiftung in the competition is the long-term encouragement of talented young people. For this reason, the winners receive monetary prizes to help finance their higher education, and the faculty mentors receive support for their department. Besides awarding cash prizes, the student competition offers successful participants further support for their education or training in the form of university events, support through tutors, and an alumni program.
