Water & Energy

Access to potable water and energy is one of the most fundamental factors in the quality of life of individuals and the development of entire communities. Electrical energy is needed for any type of business activity, not to mention such routine tasks as cooking, studying, and communication. The use of renewable energies ensures that the electricity produced does no harm to the environment or health. Adequate drinking water and a hygienic sewage system are essentially important to people’s lives and health. They are thus an essential requirement for school and vocational education, the basis of an independent life. Siemens Stiftung focuses its activities on various regions in sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America.

Basic supplies and employment with decentralized kiosk systems

The basis for supplying water and electricity are decentralized kiosks which give people in rural or peri-urban regions access to the resources. The kiosks are run as social enterprises with the aim of supplying the communities with electricity and water and providing opportunities for income and education, all while supporting local entrepreneurship. The profits obtained are reinvested in the project or in charitable activities. Here you can learn more about our commitment to basic infrastructure and social structures / 'Encourage'

WE!Hubs in Kenya
The Siemens Stiftung is supporting the installation of Water-Energy Hubs (WE!Hubs) in Kenya. The WE!Hubs utilize decentralized solar power stations and modern technologies to supply communities in remote regions in Kenya with energy and water. The WE!Hub also serves as a source of income and a center of education for the local population. Details about the project

Water stations in the northern hinterland of Nairobi
